The foundry
Quire is two people in a room in Bengaluru, drawing since 2019. In that time we have released three families, which is either commendable restraint or a business plan with a hole in it, depending on who you ask.
The reason is the same in both cases. A typeface takes about two years to become uninteresting to us, and we do not release one before that has happened. Enthusiasm is a poor judge of letterforms. It is very good at hiding a weak lowercase g behind a beautiful ampersand.
So the catalogue is small on purpose. Three families that we still maintain, still revise, and can still answer questions about, rather than eleven we shipped and stopped thinking about. If you write to us, one of the two of us replies.

How we work
Drawn, not interpolated
The ends of every axis are drawn as masters. Interpolating from one master and calling the result a width axis produces letters that are technically wider and visually wrong.
Tested at the wrong sizes
Every face is proofed at the size nobody designs for: fourteen pixels, on a dim screen, in daylight. A face that survives that will survive a poster.
Revised in public
Releases are dated and kept. When we change a curve, the old version stays downloadable, because an update that reflows somebody's book is not a favour.
